Creating Classic B&W Photographs with Digital Tools

Can you create the look of classic black and white photographs using digital tools? Yes you can and this extended lecture with Rich Seiling will teach you how! A Master Printmaker and former Assistant Curator at The Ansel Adams Gallery, Rich will show you how to create the look of 20th century masters with 21st century tools.

His workflow has been used to create countless prints for prestigious galleries and museums, but there are no tricks involved. By using a straightforward process that mirrors how darkroom materials work, Rich will show you how to create prints with the rich tonal scales, delicate highlights, and luminous shadows that are the hallmark of a classic B&W print.

From RAW processing to grayscale conversion, contrast, and dodging and burning, you’ll see the processing tools Rich uses as well as the philosophy that makes them work for both screen and print. You’ll also see prints that showcase the techniques used and the beauty possible from fine art digital printmaking.
