Dr. José E. Quintanilla, M.Photog.Cr., CPP, M-PPC

 
Speaker Biography:

Jose E. Quintanilla has worked tirelessly to rise through the ranks of professional photography since his passion was revealed at fifteen years of age in his native Nicaragua. His first major personal accomplishment was earning the degree of Doctor in Medicine and Surgery from the National Autonomous University of Nicaragua (Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Nicaragua). The passion for quality photography and his dedication to continuing education from many sources caused him to seek formal education in photography. He studied art and photography via various schools, programs, and seminars. Jose is a graduate of Tri-Community School of Photography located in Covina, CA.

Jose earned the Professional Photographers of America (PPA)'s coveted Master of Photography degree. Later he earned the Photographic Craftsman degree from PPA. He also received the Master of Photography degree from the Professional Photographers of California. He is part of the prestigious international group of Certified Professional Photographers (CPP) from PPA. He became a CPP Liaison in 2015. He has won numerous local, state, national, and international merits for his photography. As of now, several of his images have been accepted into the highly acclaimed PPA Loan Collection at the International Photographic Competition. One of his images was also inducted into the prestigious California Prime Image Collection in 2017, from the Professional Photographers of California (PPC). A couple of his images have been inducted into the highly acclaimed Honor Collection (Coleccion de Honor in Spanish) at the Mexican Society of Professional Photographers (SMFP for its acronym in Spanish).

The following are some of the distinctions he has received:

• People’s Choice Award from PPC in 2012.
• Photographer of the Year in the Open Category in 2013 from the Professional Photographers of Los Angeles County (PPLAC).
• Recipient of the “Elmer and Vera Kingham Service Award” from the Inland Empire Professional Photographers and Videographers (IEPPV) in 2013.
• Photographer of the Year in the Illustrative category from IEPPV in 2014.
• People’s Choice Award from IEPPV in 2014.
• Platinum Medalist from the PPA International Photographic Competition (IPC) in 2014 for having merited all his case of four images and also having three of them inducted into the prestigious “Loan Collection”.
• Recognized as one of the Top 10 Photographers of the State of California by PPC in 2015.
• Gold Medalist from the Chinese-American Photographers Expo in China in 2015.
• Silver Medalist from the PPA IPC in 2015 for having merited four of his case images and also having one of them inducted into the prestigious “Loan Collection”.
• Received the prestigious Elite membership from PPA in 2016.
• Gold Medalist from the PPA IPC in 2016 for having merited all four case images and also having two of them inducted into the prestigious “Loan Collection.”
• Received the Judge’s Choice Award at the State Photographic Competition in 2017.
• Received the President’s Choice Award at the State Photographic Competition in 2017.

Course Description: Playing with Water

In this course, the participants will learn the proper lighting and techniques in order to create fascinating images of liquids and will also have the opportunity to photograph water through multiple fun and creative setups. Participants will also acquire creative ideas to create their own images. Get ready to play with water and explore the world of creatively photographing liquids. This class will be lots of fun.

• Different ways of photographing liquids (splashes, crashes, etc.)
• Proper lighting and techniques
• Different types of fun and creative setups for photographing liquids
• Hands-on practice
